Narrator: Percy Williams, born in Vancouver, Canada May 1908 participated in the 1928 Summer Olympics.  In the interim, his life was not an easy one.  I interviewed Percy in 1928 during the Summer Olympics.  I asked him if he had any advice to others who want to participate in the Olympics.  Here are his exact words:

Percy:  I always believed that you should never give up.  When I was 15 I had rheumatic fever.  The doctor told me no more active sports.  But I keep at it.

Narrator:    Percy won 2 gold medals in 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics running the 100 meter and 200 meter sprint.  I met one of his competitors at the British Empire games and here is what he had to say.

Competitor:  Percy is hard to beat.  He set a world record today.  I don’t think I can ever beat him.  He has his small size to account for that.

Ending:

Narrator:  Percy continued to run and compete at high levels for a few years, until he pulled a muscle from which he never fully recovered.  Living in pain for most of his life, Percy committed suicide in 1982 at the age of 74.
